  • 4th Saturday Brown Bagger (T&L's): Blind. Floral, perfume and black fruit aromas. Tannic; structured, but there's a good bit of fruit underneath. Black fruit and woody elements under the tannins.

I did not pick this out as our bottle of Meyney, as I put it towards the end to ensure a later flight. This was decanted in a wide decanter for 6.5 hours before the tasting. A tannic beast, this needs to be held for a few years or decanted for 18+ hours.

  • Really enjoy Chateau Meyney as their vintages provide great QPR and 2016 is no different. Like to purchase in 375mls for more immediate consumption.

Heard that the 2016 Meyney was particularly well received and a classic Saint Estephe - and it is; yet, if one compares vintages, I still think 2009 - at the same age - had the edge. That said, the 2016 is enjoyable.

Good dark color. A perfume nose, and dark fruits with well structured tannins/minerality on the palate; this wine will need time. Interestingly, I enjoyed the 2016 more the first night after about an hour in the decanter than the second. Best to let this age slowly in the cellar. Looking forward to the 2018.

  • Rich fruit, cassis and plum, with appropriate acidity. Moderate tannin level. Medium length finish.

  • Wild dark berry fruit, black soil, black rocky scortched earth, mocha, and some sappy cassis. Quite the mouthful on initial entry, but some nicely executed red and black cherry and dark raspberry notes provide lift to an otherwise dark profile. Finishes full and mouthwatering, with just enough cut to keep the speed on the back end running in pace with the fruit. A great bottle of wine for the price tag. Drink now with a little air, or hold for a couple of years and consume over the next 5-7+. 94+ solid points. A buy again wine for sure.

  • Almost opaque in color, you can tell this is going to be Dark black fruits, truffle, smoke, jam and tobacco scents are just great in the nose. The wine is rich, concentrated and has depth of flavor with length. Not a finesse styled wine, instead you enjoy a blast of ripe, dark fruits, crunchy tannins and serious levels of fruit in the finish! This is the best vintage of Meyney ever produced.
