  • I had much higher expectations after falling in love with the amazing 2013 version. To me this wine was very acidic, not nearly as extracted and complex as the ‘13 and quite vegetal. Not a $125 bottle of wine Imo. Even so, I did like the firm oak and subtle toast backbone, and surprisingly long finish. Possibly I had an off bottle.

  • First winery on our fourth day in Napa Valley is Mountain Tides Wines and Eleven Eleven Wines located in Oak Knoll. Seventh wine from Eleven Eleven is their 2015 Laki's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. This bottling is made up of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Laki's Vineyard in Oak Knoll and made by Kirk Venge. Aged for 20 months in 90% new French oak. Only 330 cases produced.

Deep mix of purplish red and violet. A bit savory on the attack of the nose with savory spices, herbs, sage, tobacco, dark berries, vanilla, nutmeg and some bitter baking spices. Heavy tannins (8/10) and full bodied. Juicy and voluptuous on the palate with tons of structure, layered black fruits, spices and some oak. Long and lingering finish. Drink from 2020 till 2040.
