  • Red fruit, a little tart and dry, some mineral and leather notes, elegant, but a bit tight and short. Might open further with a couple of more years.

  • Seriously satisfying bottle from 90-year-old vines in the village portion of La Combe d'Orveau, from a producer I've never heard of before. It doesn't have the dimension you'd get from the 1er cru portion, but the appeal here is on account of the old-school style with the classic sense of restraint, sort of the Burgundy equivalent of what the British would call a luncheon claret. (Although there is a little bit of CO2.) Smooth and easy down the gullet with the crimson-toned fruit already in a winey secondary stage, the leftovers the second day actually get more purple and primary while keeping its slender figure. This has that V.V. class and has me very curious what they're able to pull off in 2015.
