Intense! This is not an easy drinking wine. It demands your attention. But if you can handle that, the payoff is worth it. I don't know that this would pair nicely with anything- perhaps dark chocolate. This is not a wine to cleanse the palate of beef tallow or tomato paste. This is a wine that makes you stop and think. Technically - the nose is pure jammy black fruit. The palette is moderate tannins with well integrated but sharp acids, and intense flavors of cassis and blackberry plus coffee grounds, black pepper, and subtle notes of dark chocolate. Very long finish. The consistency is just above motor oil, and it will stain your palette as you wash it over your tongue and your brain snaps to attention. Wow! It kind of reminds me of sour gummy worms, and- to be honest- I love sour gummy worms. The contrast of sweet and sour with the intensity dialed up to eleven deliver an electric jolt straight to the brain. It needs some air- but not much. After about 30 minutes and still lightly chilled, this is a wine that has me pondering the universe. That may have something to do with the 15.5% alcohol, but the intensity of this wine is obliterating all background noise. I regret that I have only one bottle.
I'm giving this a high rating, based on the sensory experience this wine delivers. More casual wine drinkers, or people who prefer lighter wines, may disagree.
