I wouldn’t recognize this wine based on my previous notes from 3 prior bottles. Much more integrated from about 6 months ago. Alcohol is elevated and that is always going to detract. On the plus side the red and black fruits have become crisper and clearer. Trending up.

Perfectly ordinary. Watercolor-by-numbers in its personality. I wouldn’t hesitate to use it to cook something good; it’s flavor would enhance the dish and it’s lack of nuance and energy would not be noticed. A glass of it while cooking would be fine too, something with decent flavor that wouldn’t demand any attention. For more than that, I would tend to look elsewhere.

A year in the bottle has helped out some. There is noticeable oak still, but it's less prominent now. It's a big wine that really needs some grilled meat to show its best. I didn't love it on release, and I don't love it now, but I am warming up to it a little. Last year I really didn't have an appetite for more than a glass. I had no trouble with two at dinner this time around.
