Pop n pour. A basket of fresh berries with a touch of herbs, vanilla and creamy oak. A solid acid backbone and good integration make this a solid food wine. A great QPR at approx $17, drink thru 2011

Tastes and smells like warm, sour cherries. I love that. A little wood smoke, some coffee hiding in the finish. Lighter than a lot of the Riojas I've had in the past. Lacked that little extra something but a very good wine. For £9 from Averys, it's not the best deal ever but definitely worth a try.

Smoke and earth form the basis of flavor for this relatively austere but well structured, nicely mature, apparently traditional crianza. The fruit is elegant and emerges from the glass with a swirl or two along with those beautiful cedar, earth, and smokey notes. I liked this wine.
Update: I left the bottle sitting on the kitchen counter and had a glass of this tonight--8/18--before pouring some in the soup. Kind of good! Bit fading, maybe, a bit more wood and acid, but still pretty good fruit. Well, that's nice, you know. These crianzas can be stalwart.
Update again! It is now the 19th. Remarkably, this wine is still going--and, if anything, is actually better than last night. I am impressed. In fact, quite honestly, I think it's better now than it was the night I opened it. Very interesting.

Open for six hours, not decanted. Medium red, slightly paler at the rim. Nose of cherry and a little barnyard. Flavors of cherry and a bit of leather. Decent finish with lingering sweet cherry. Good wine, but nothing special.

Similar to previous bottle, but just seemed to be lacking that little extra something. Decanting likely would have helped, but this was a spontaneous bottle.
