  • Winebar [1 Rosé, 3 Whites, 8 Reds, & 6 *shared* bottles] from 05/10/19 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Typically, "80% Tempranillo, 8% Mazuelo, & 12% Graciano grapes hand-harvested from 35 & 40 yr-old vines from our 'Viña Lanciano' estate in Pago 'El Rincón'; Malolactic fermentation in new FR oak barrels; During this process, the lees are stirred weekly. Aged 7 mos in new FR oak barriques & a further 6 mos in new Russian oak barrels; Bottled unfiltered & unfined;"

N: Attractively RIPE berries with an OAK influence, but NOT in the sense of "traditional" Rioja? Intensity lurking

P: Med body; Rndish entry with NICE, almost swtish frt met by astringent pucker which evolves into a LONG finish with a tangy/swtness to the DUSTY tannins. NEEDS through '20 for most folks, I'm guessing, though the tannins AREN'T offensive, per se. SHOULD exceed its 10th by at least a yr or 2. My EXC-/EXC, but likely only for those willing to try something at least a BIT out of the ordinary. [I saw no other source with which to compare this vendor's $33.95.]
