Clear, Squid ink black with purple rim, very sporadic and slow-moving stubby tears. Clean, almost full intensity on nose, with aromas of cooked raspberries and blueberries, violets, hawthorn, slight perfume, and malt. tremendous depth. Dry, almost full bodied, med acidity, med tannins, med+ alcohol, with further tastes of roasted black cherries, pomegranate, cloves, black olives, roast beef juices and pencil shavings. Good balance and finish. Not quite the pepperiness of the usual Shiraz but very pleasant to drink on its own.

Clare Valley, 100% Shiraz, aged in French and American oak, 14.2% ABV. Youthful purple colour, medium depth; mineral and fresh but already relatively open and aromatic nose, plums and blackberries, violets, black pepper, warm spices and toasty oak; quite tight and unyielding on the palate, even after considerable time in the decanter, not very tannic and with some strawberries and cream, but also cherry stones, really dry and seems to lack comfort and succulence; dry and skinny finish. The jury is still out on this one - it could be 88 or 92 at the end of the day.

Sweet black fruit with spice and a punch of alcohol on the finish.
