The '14 Montestefano was outstanding. It has the capacity to age for a while from now, and will probably peak in a few years, but if you have a few it's time to check in on one in my opinion.
The nose was expressive, with leather, black cherry fruit, dark red floral tones, sweet spices, roasted meats, and licorice. It was dark, spicy, and with quite a bit of the rustic, leathery note I get in a lot of La Ca Nova wines. On the palate, I found smoke, black cherry fruit, sweet spices, and leather, with a medium plus body and medium plus acidity. The tannins were a bit grainy towards the finish, calling for a few years more to integrate, but the wine was still quite drinkable and so beautifully expressive right now, with a good mix of primary fruit and secondary characteristics.

Amazing wine; slow O'd for three hours, decanted for one. The first sip leaves your palate—indeed, your entire mouth—awash in complex mineral flavors, coaxing you to another sip as soon as the very long finish completes. Terrific on its own, but with food, the wine is marvelous. An incredibly good QPR at <$US40.

This wine has come a long way since I tasted my first one. I still think there is some upside. It's a light ruby color. It has an aroma of forest flowers and some tobacco and a hint of leather. There is some light balsalmic flavor with light red fruits, a bit of tart cherry and some earthy flavor, and a nice mouthfeel. It's got a nice finish and some grip, acidity has mellowed since last time I tasted early. Tannins still present but not offputting. Still sipping on day 2 and it's getting better with more air. 90+

More savory than prior renditions I've had of this wine. My first impression was that of raw beef, followed by the oft-mentioned notes of leather, wood, and cigar. Little fruit. I won't speculate whether it will transform into something better with time and secondary flavors. I consider this a good value and one of my go-to Italian producers for regular occasion Barbaresco. My wife, on the other hand, was not a fan of this particular vintage.

Great balance of tanin and acid. Lovely mouth feel. Perfume. Not very ripe cherry fruit and leather, earth.
No rush on other bottles.
