Uncork the bottle 1 hour in advance. I agree with Julian Marshall's comment. The aroma of pencil shavings is very obvious. The vintage 2016 tastes different compared to vintage 2015, but both are enjoyable wines. I will keep the 2016 for a few years as I still have 8 bottles of the 2015.

Classic Pauillac aromas of pencil shavings and cassis, plus a little black pepper and blackberry, then a very silky mouthful of blackcurrant and blackberry, typically Pichon Baron in the way it's composed, a little oak but fairly unobtrusive, plus some rounded but lingering tannins on the finish. Approachable now with a long decant but promising much more in the future. Plenty of core energy to the fruit but well-balanced and not remotely overdone. Still a work in progress but great potential. Very impressive.

Mature nose. Balanced, solidly structured, blackberry, graphite, fruit acid, wood spice, well melded and drinking beautifully. I post yet another note to express a different opinion from preceding 2023 notes but for the "94" winemanintheden note which captures this Pauillac.

Decanted and back into the bottle 4 hours before - purple-red with a watery pink rim. Very floral nose, red and purple flowers jump out of the glass. More aromas of pipe tobacco, pencil shavings, cherry fruit leather, and sous bois. Palate brings in some clove and balances the fuit nicely. Tannins are soft, but still have a little grip. Drinking pretty well now, but I'll probably hold the next bottle for a couple or three years. 90+

Dark berry color. Nose surprisingly faint and generic - blackberry, red fruits, crushed gravel, green pepper. Much better on the palate, especially on Days 2 & 3, as it gains weight and complexity. Blackberry, cassis, red fruits, cedar. Agree that this is a bit thin in the middle and short on the finish, but not unexpected for a solid second (or does PB consider this their third?).
