Community Tasting Notes (4) Median Score: 86 points

  • Generous nose of blueberry, smoked meat, rock, licorice, flowers, incense, iodine, and heat. Rough palate that shows chlorine, licorice, and berry before clamping down and getting fumy. This has the elements of a great wine but a lot seems wrong too; it's chemical, ashy, bitter tannins are a long way from maturity and I'm not sure it will ever achieve balance. Good and interesting if somewhat of an awkward brute.

  • Nose is rather monolithic with dominance of crushed rocks and a background of herbaceousness and liquorice. Tannins dominate on entry and persist over midpalate and into finish. I believe this will come into better balance, but it's going to be about ten years...

  • A big, tannic beast that doesn't so much mellow as it does calm down enough to allow its good side to come out. A blast of ripe berries at the pop. Lots of smoke, woodsiness and leather. Reminds me of a hot afternoon in Southern Italy, or Baja, or anyplace dusty, hot and still. The type of wine you want something to eat something unrefined nest to - for example, it was delicious with a thin, tough piece of beef cooked quick over high heat and slathered in a garlic chimichurri.

  • Something went badly wrong here. Shrill and disjointed. Acid spikes and a carbonic spritz.
