Quite nice and definitely in the true Right Bank style. We drank this bottle the same weekend we took possession of our 2002 allotment, but I think the 2001 still needs another year to peak. Wonderful dark fruits, tobacco and a little leather should only get more complex over time.

A text book in balance. Yummy, there is no heavy over the top fruits or jam but enough to be pleasent. A Nice body frame of acid an moderate tannins. The herbal and earthy are beautifully intergrated. The after taste was the best enjoyment with hint of bitter sweet cherries, iodine, long. I will take this wine over any of the "Big California"

(Grapes of Roth Merlot) Bricking dark red violet color; aromatic, black cherry, baked plum nose; rich, ripe black currant, berry, black cherry palate; medium finish (13.3% alcohol)
(Grapes of Roth Merlot) Unfiltered and unfined, Roth's 2001 merlot is a deep, opaque brick red in the glass. Highly aromatic, the nose is rich and youthful with intense black cherries, grilled steak and Moroccan spice. As is true with most Roth creations, this wine is fruit forward, but balanced — with cherries, spearmint, sweet basil and faint smoked meat flavors. Full bodied but still remarkably elegant, this is a wine of nearly ideal balance that should improve with cellar time — probably up to ten years.

Great effort. Is the best Merlot I have had out of Long Island. Maybe even Miles would drink this one (of course if you don't tell him what it is).

It was very smooth. I was so surprised I was drinking a New York wine. It was Bordeaux in style.

YOW! Damn near perfect. Best LI wine i've had to date. Pricey, but worth it.
