Natty Bretty nose that dissipated with air. Pronounced dark fruit, maybe just a touch foxy. Clean on the palate and quite elegant with some fine drying tannins. Violets, earth, and herbs. Def holding remaining bottles for a few years.

Had next to a 2019 Chave Hermitage and all I can say is wow. Maybe expectations were lower thinking this would be too “natural” for me. Horse manure funk on the nose is off putting but the palate is laser precise and clean. Medium texture with black/blue fruit, smoke, violets, tar, mint, mineral and barnyard. Good from the start but better with time. Great value.

This is one of the best wine I know from Northern Rhone and an amazing QPR. From the steep slopes of Côteaux de Bassenon, Stephan has a small plot (<1 ha) of very old serine vines (many people are saying that it is different from Syrah, but in the syrah family) planted between 1896 and 1902. Currently, 60% of the vineyards contain cloned syrah, 30% serine and 10% viognier. He has expanded Viognier with young improved plants in Verenay. Stephan uses macération semi-carbonique to all his red wines. The end result is impressive, with concentrated fruit, elegance and finesse running through his wines as the common thread. If I'm correct this vineyard is farmed biodynamically. You should definitely buy and try this wine...in any vintage.

First pour out of coravin. Wine is nearly opaque with purple rim. It has quite a bit of reduction on the nose. Got better over course of the meal but still noticeable. It never completely disappeared. Ripe Raspberry, black current, clear violet on the nose. On the palate the wine is clean, full body, super concentrated with impeccably fine tannin, probably the smoothest tannin I have had for a wine of this age and concentration. After taste is long with spice and restrained smoke.
A beautiful wine that's approachable right now. Would def score higher if not because of the reduction notes.

Youthful, dark purple, bold but quite elegant. Fun to drink today but clearly built for the long haul.
