What daver852 said. I would further define it (backhandedly) by its absence of faults: no vegetal stinky taste, low grapiness (pretty dry fruit), those crucial absences revealing some complexity and v good balance of the two grape types. Everyone has drunk serious reds much less pleasing and satisfactory than this.

For what this is, it is quite exceptional. Frontera is Concha y Toro's bottom-level line, but quality still shows. Dark color, appealing nose, a little on the soft side, with quite a bit of ripe fruit and a little oak in the background. One-dimensional and undemanding, but quite tasty. Excellent bargain-basement quaffer and party wine. At the $4 level you don't look for much, but this wine is actually very drinkable and lacks any glaring faults. Better than many wines costing twice as much - or more.

I liked the first bottle a lot! Nice fruit and great body. Second bottle left something to be desired.
