  • {screwcap, 13.5%} Mid garnet. Spice, peppery nose. Cherry fruit too. Slightly dark, earthy, evolved. Palate is maltier, with a blacker fruit profile. No more than medium bodied though, very little tannin or oak, medium acidity and a grapes authenticity of light red flavour. Medium length finish. Good with food. Old fashioned wine, in a good way. Can be kept another decade, probably, but I can’t imagine real evolution is coming.

  • This is in a lovely spot right now. Someone else has described it as juicy and that’s the single word I’d use. Medium bodied and savoury. Very easy going and as good as it’s going to get. No harm in holding but suggest drinking up now.

  • {screwcap, 13.5%} Deep garnet. Sandy, savoury, white pepper nose. Cherry, maybe? But with a sweet tinge too. Savoury palate by Oz standards, with a peppery note, light/medium body, medium acid, low grittily fine tannins. The red fruit flavours are never green, but on the lean side. Dilute at best I’d say. It feels a bit in between; moving off youthful, but there’s no real development or complexity. It will certainly keep for a decade, maybe with some improvement? No risk at any rate.

  • {screwcap, 13.5%} Solid garnet red. Barely developed nose of blackberries, a whiff of tobacco, minimal oak, although a faint hint of vanilla also carries over to the palate, which is younger than the nose. Medium acid, and weight, sitting on the front and mid-palates. Flavours turn to light cranberries and spice, supported by light gritty tannins. Mostly savoury, although in a new world context. Good, probably better, over the next five years or so.

  • Hunter whistlestop 2019 #2 (Hunter Valley): Savoury, earthy, slight bacon fat, baked plums and black pepper. Tight, savoury, chewy
