  • A bit elusive and tight but still a good nose of spice, earth and mushrooms. High acidity, a bit lean on the body. Quite complex finish with lots of spice. Very good but previous bottles better.

  • Full, intense and classically Vosne with layers of macerated black cherry, black tea, Asian spices and toasted herbs. Rich and still decadent fruit with fresh, well integrated acidity and no hard edges. Delicious and Grand Cru quality wine.

  • This shows an intense, heady nose full of dark berries, sous bois, beef stock, asian spices and soy. Lots of depth and detail, just lovely to sniff, swirl and sniff again. On the palate more austere, but still rich. Dark feeling, with earthy minerals, lots of spice, paint, sandalwood and herbs. Still quite a lot of tannins left, and the trademark high acidity of the vintage. Very, very long finish with lingering berries, now light and sour - lingonberries - along warm spice and varnish.

    Very good. A step up from last bottle.

  • Drank alongside the Clos de Couchereaux of the same vintage.

    This needs some air to open up. Lots of dark fruit, spice and mushroom on the nose. Deep and complex. On the palate also significantly darker and deeper but not as silky. Some unresolved tannin still. Again lovely, intense spice, almost tingling. More mineral and austere. Longer than the Clos but takes a bit more effort. Overall the better wine though but I guess it’s a matter of taste. My wife prefered the Clos.

  • The 1996 Jadot Petits Monts is an unqualified success in this sometimes rather capricious vintage. A bouquet of degraded ripe mulberry fruit, forest floor, exotic spice and rich soil is followed by a wine with lovely balance: the acids are bright, but show none of the aggressiveness one sometimes finds in this vintage. This is in a good place to approach right now.
