Weekly tasting group RWP #350; Bolgheri vs Bordeaux (@ CvR): Beautiful and luxurious bouquet with dark berries. On the palate chocolate, herbs and spices, beautiful acidity and round tannin. Some bell pepper in the finish. Great length. This wine is in a perfect drinking stage now and no real hurry. Delicious and a real treat! 93+

This wine is fully matured and drinking beautifully. It has aged like a nice Bordeaux while maintaining the nuances expected from a wine from Bolgheri. Dried roses and old leather on the nose, dusty dark fruit with some meatiness. The acidity has faded but still stood up to grilled ribeye tonight. About 30 minutes in decanter showed its peak with some decline after 2 hours.

Rich and ripe, but not roasted. Supple and plump, dark fruited, with a little fig in the fruit. Fleshy and round. A crowd pleaser but not a brain stimulator. Still not a bad showing in the vintage. 88

Our last bottle signed by the master himself at a tasting at Binnys. Momma felt this had some TCA, a compound she has ridiculously low tolerance for, but I got no such inference. I sensed perhaps a bit of older barrel but really a nice nose of menthol and berry. Flavors are lean but still vibrant, with cracked pepper, blueberry, tar and tannic notes. I liked it. But I'd drink soon. Thanks Angelo.

I bought several bottle at Binny's in St. Charles, Il after a tasting with the maestro himself. Binny's couldn't muster more than about 20 in attendance but what an experience to meet Angelo, who was humble and approachable. This wine was, to memory, from youngish Bolgheri vines and it never really met my expectations. Pretty good lift in the nose with fir, spice and berry notes. Flavors seem a bit faded, red currant, pepper and good acid backbone. Wanted more, got less.
