90 min decant. Nearly opaque purple color. Blackberry, dark raspberry, cassis, crushed black walnut, French toast, chocolatey caramel, and vanilla cream on the nose. Dry, plush, velvety, full bodied palate, with tongue coating acidity. Firm, full tannins on the longish finish.
This is a fun bottle at a great stage in its development. It’s simultaneously complex and decadent.

Better after a day open - the rating is a point higher than it would have been the first night. Good savory dark fruit with good balance and a general absence of the sweet vanilla oak that I find plagues too young Bevans.

2 hr decant. Nose of coffee and dark chocolate and high pitched alcohol, liquerish.
The palate was somewhat muted showing cedar, minerals, damp earth, and fresh blueberries. I was expecting Napa and tasting Bordeaux. If this were a Bordeaux I’d be raving, but very unlike Russell’s valley floor vines. Restrained but with high alcohol? I’m declaring this a bad specimen and will try a ‘16 soon. Sadly I had only a single 2015. Will give it more air and report back.
Checked on this at 2/3/4 hrs after decant and no improvement.
To be fair Pumpkin told me to be careful on root days. Dammit I didn’t listen.

Excited about this vineyard acquisition from Russell that borders Dalla Valle and Oakville Ranch in the Oakville AVA. Oakville has the red volcanic soil that adds complexity and minerality to these gorgeous Cabs. Get them now
