Community Tasting Notes (2)

  • {screwcap, 14%} Mid-garnet, correct for age. Hint of ripe blueberry jam on the nose, but not in a fruit-bomb way, due to its overall reticence. Sandy, savoury sort of nose, really. The palate is rather diffuse and low-key, even a bit washed out. It's quite ripe, with blue/black flavours and with very soft dusty tannins, which combined with the rather low acidity gives it a heavy gluggy sort of texture. It's only really a medium-bodied wine, but it really needs some acidity to life and give it freshness. Not over-ripe, nor too hot or pruney, yet still just misses the mark somehow. Medium length but somehow unsatisfying finish, with a confected twist to the flavours, showing a faintly cloying sweetness at the end. Not likely to improve; maybe time will tame the sweet fruit back into what's left of the structure.

  • {screwcap, 14%} Reticent, savoury, dusty Shiraz, with mild cherry/cranberry aromas, marginally developed but not hugely complex. Medium in acidity, and with low/medium drying tannins, it’s restrained with low oak and slightly prune-like flavour qualities. Medium length finish. Not very inspiring overall, not sure lots of cellaring will really help either. Just underwhelming in total.
