Nose of mushrooms and herbs with flavors of black raspberry, cassis, plum, and dark fruits. Leather, tobacco, hint of chocolate with smooth integrated tannins makes for a beautiful wine.

60 minute decant. Nose of black cherry, black currant, and oak barrel. Rich palate of milk chocolate, caramel, dark red fruits, pencil lead, and peppery mountain soil. Mocha and dried herbs on the finish, with some bell pepper notes, red currant, and dry bay leaf. Drinking well, though I wouldn't expect any further development.

(Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon Signature) Hello friends. Today we have a survey of our neighbor two doors down, featuring one terrific up-and-comer working with extremely old fruit – Bedrock – and one classic of the genre: Chappellet. Chappellet is located here, on the flanks of Pritchard Hill as it runs down to Lake Hennessey (here’s a pic of this breathtaking spot), as it has been since 1967, more than half a century ago, when Donn Chappellet first recognized the potential of this terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon. Donn passed away in 2016, so this is a milestone vintage for the winery. Donn’s son Cyril, who moved to a home in the vineyards at the age of ten, leads the operation currently, with Phillip Corallo-Titus at the winemaking helm, as he has been since 1990. This is a beautiful expression of mountain-grown Napa Cab; one that, according to folks at the winery, has "a LOT" of Pritchard Hill fruit (the same that goes into the $250 bottling) along with fruit from Stage Coach, Broken Rock, and Sugarloaf Vineyards. It's a total Cali classic, full of rich fruit and dusty earth. Jeb Dunnuck: Copyrighted material withheld. Wine Advocate: Copyrighted material withheld. We also have access to a miniscule number of bottles of three successive vintages of Chappellet’s crown jewel.

Very good Napa Cab. Not as bold as you’d expect from a Napa Cab; not coming across like a fruit bomb. More balanced. Drinking well at the moment.

I agree with BHWine, on the decline, and not very interesting for its price point. Tried in Reidel cab glass and regular red wine glass.
