  • This is a beautiful wine; Zesty acidity, a palate of ripe lamon, honey, and orchard fruits, with an underlying mineral spine. Really harmonious.

I too had the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese feinherb Ur Alte Reben (albeit, the 2015 version) a few months back. I certainly found this one more open, and the "Ur" Alte Reben of the previous year more subdued at this time.

  • Interesting that some of the notes below found this to be a larger-scaled wine than its stablemate the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr "Ur" Alte Reben feinherb, as I found the exact opposite to be the case. Whereas the Zeltinger cuvee was deep and earthy, this was quite bright and citrusy, very structured with high acidity and an almost Saar-like personality. Very, very young. These Selbach feinherbs age well though so I'll look forward to holding my others for at least five years and revisiting.

  • Enjoyable now, but just so, so closed. This needs either a few hours in a decanter or a few years in the cellar. Lime pith, minerals, satay spice. Looking forward to seeing how this grows in the years to come.

  • L-AP# 2-606-319-023-17. From memory. PnP. Lovely wine - apples, lime, peaches, mild pineapples, herbs and lovely minerality. Medium bodied with a great balance - moderately acidic tart elements balanced by the fruit. A favorite of the night.

  • Med-pale yellow green.
Nose > Closed, shy & a hint of SO2 on PnP. After 40 min - Big, rich, fresh, powerful, with citrus & tart orchard fruit. Lime-flesh, orange blossom, lavender, lemon-oil, Morello cherry, tart nectarine, basil with slightly earthy violet & rose petal. A touch of lanolin,
    a hint of fuder & key-lime cream.
Palate > Huge, round, rich, pungent entry. Smoky lime-flesh, tart white-peach/white-nectarine, Rainier cherry, with cherry-stone &
hint of marzipan. Elegantly earthy touch of fuder, blood-orange & smoked citrus-zest.
    Creamy/steely. Med+ body. Med/med+ acidity. Med+ length. Med+ intensity.
    Finish & aftertaste echo smoky/earthy citrus, lavender, tart-nectarine skin, cherry-stone & fresh key-lime juice.
