Similar to my previous notes, this is a nice, medium bodied, creamy and nutty chardonnay with nice balance, some intensity and a mix of stonefruit and tropical flavours. Drinking well now but should last a few years (A-)

From one of the most respected and oldest winemaker in New Zealand, Villa Maria offers a wonderful example of the heights a chardonnay from Marlborough can attain. This wine comes from their single vineyard-Taylors Pass. This chardonnay comes in a modest 13.5% abv, and is integrated well into the wine with it barely being noticeable on the palate. In the glass, the wine is a warm medium golden color-a real stunner. On the nose, it is an aromatic wine with its scents of lemon, almonds, and vanilla leaping out of glass. On the palate, it has some decent weight to it, as the medium bodied wine sits pleasantly in the mouth. It has a delightfully fresh acidity about it, and it perfectly balanced. The flavors are bit more understated than the aroma, but nonetheless, are very enjoyable. They really do mirror the aromas though with lemon, citrus, almonds, and oak showing up on the palate. The finish is pleasant with no aftertaste and lingers for a medium duration. This a good solid example of Marlborough chardonnay, highly enjoyable, and very easy to drink.

Very nice NZ chardonnay, with all the components nicely balanced. Medium bodied, with stonefruits, lemon curd providing an acid spine, and not too much oak and nutty flavours. Drinking well now but will last several years easily (A-).

Villa Maria Tastings -2017; FirstSipNZ and Snooth: Very pale straw yellow color with aromatic and very appealing tropical fruit, green apple, guava, lemon, white flower, buttered toast and wet stone aromas. On the palate it's medium-bodied, focused and harmonious with an acidity that seems that seems to build from solid to mouth-watering with each sip. It shows apple, grilled pineapple, Meyer lemon, vanilla and spice flavors with a long finish. 13.5% abv; SRP -$45
