The levels, cork and color were all good. The rest of the people were raving about the expressive nose of a mature wine but I found it a bit simple. I thought this bottle was a bit past it's prime even though it retained decent acidity but I thought it was slightly oxidized.

HFS! This is the best of probably 20-25 Chave Hermitage's I've had, most of them thanks to a very generous friend. A 101 point nose and a 99 point palate! Still youthful appearing, it could probably go another 5-10 years. I could have just smelled it all night long.

Absolutely stellar. Virtually no signs of age and the fruit was a fresh as can be, but absolutely integrated with the tannins. Sweet cherry flavors blended on a rustic frame. What Hermitage should taste like. 11/00

Pebbles Dinner (Chez Bruce, Wandsworth, London): Wow. Tobacco, smoke, bacon, mellow fruit on the palate, but searing acidity driving the flavour into every corner. Thrilling.
