Awesome wine. Rich but clean and super pretty. Wide array of flavors and in a great spot. Probably near peak. No hurry to drink but if you have a few, then definitely try one soon.
This feels riper than previous vintages. Better? Maybe, but more of a different take on a classic profile. Gobs of bruised apples, Meyer lemon, quince, with touches of melon, pineapple and an odd Satsuma / tangerine thing that pops up as it warms and underlying chalky mineral notes. Secondary notes give you touches of vanilla, chamomile and loads of baking spice, which occasionally rears up and feels flat out spicy. Wildly complex, but probably not in a way that's going to endear it to more casual drinkers. The concentration of fruit seems to have overpowered the typical nuttiness, but again, different, rather than better or worse. A slightly viscous mouthfeel along with light wood tannin make this very textural, which combines nicely with the med++ acidity.
Given the overall concentration of the wine and the acid, this is something you can certainly drink now, but this seems like it has a lot of runway left. Really excellent wine, which has sadly become much harder to run down.
So much development in this wine, a complete admixture of oak, oxidation, and acidity- almost impossible to describe it's so subjective. Reminds me of jazz. Caramel & butterscotch, lemon rind, pistachio shells, cinnamon baked apples, vanilla cream custard, lemon ricotta, spiced persimmons in warm mulled wine, toasted coconut, bourbon, and went stupidly good with everything it was eaten with. Even 86% Peruvian dark chocolate. Was sub-$30 in 2019 when I picked these up, damn. A (94) all around for this one.
The white wines from LdH are rarely boring and this example of the 2009 Gravonia is no exception. It’s always fun to see casual wine drinkers reactions. Most can’t tell if they love them or hate them. 100% Viura, this bottle poured a deep golden color. Notes of ripe melon, funky cheese, roasted nuts and damp basement on the nose. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with a somewhat waxy texture. Notes of melon, lemon, ginger gummies and nuts. Lovely acid. Finish is long. A wine with real character and substance. A wine that makes you think.

Copper coloured. Smokey, kerosene, varnish, some ash. Toast, plenty of texture and flavour, red and white floral and fruit, textured and full. Love the interest factor.
