Color: dark ruby with hints of violet. Color gets to the edge of the glass Nose: thing of beauty. Plum and black cherry. Pomegranate. Wet earth. Bruised violet. Hints of barnyard and geranium that point to Tuscany, very much additive to the overall charm. A slight funky cheese note. Wood! Mahogany and olive in particular Palate: stupendous balance played on the medium-high acidity. A medium-full body. Tannins fully resolved that caress the gums. A tartness that still calls for food, 25 years after the vintage. Pomegranate, red ribes, dark cherry, plum, and a fantastic menthol note that really Pierce's through the end palate. Very slight tertiary notes of raisin, lots of soil Finish: medium-long
Wow this is in great shape. Tart and structured, but time has tamed this enough to make it a standalone piece if one is into that. I am not an expert in old Brunello (I'm sitting here thinking of merlot) but this is just fantastic. It held up well over several hours so here's guessing this can go another few years at least. But there really is no need to wait, it is drinking excellently. Super performance from the p&p, with a couple hours of evolution and then a lock in into a state of very good performance

surprisingly youthful with slight evolution since last tried. Great nose and fruit with no browning of edges and slight tannins bode well for additional life, I would guess at least five years. Still a delicious brunello.

This is still drinking deliciously. Very smooth and compact, with a nice fruit core and lovely earth tones. This is slightly better the second day -- on the first there was a slight harshness near the finish, but that is gone on Day 2. I am tempted to rate it higher because of the age, but I think high 80s is a more accurate score.

Read several notes from other wine enthusiasts and my comment for those that opened this high quality vintage is this: "If you opened before 2010, than you really didn't give this Brunello di Montalcino a fair review and wasted your chance. 97 was a good year for Brunello. We opened in Nov 2018 for daughter's 21st birthday since it was harvested with the same year. Purchased in 2002 in the Old Wine Shop in Florence. Decanted one hour, very little sediment but filtered the last third anyway. Served with grass fed 1 1/2 inch thick grilled rare New York strip. It was everything expected and more. Brick red edge to garnet center in color. A savory nose with earthy ripened cherry, savory mushroom, and old vine. Flavor notes of dried fig and sweet black currant, plum and mineral. Very refined tannins and balanced acidity. Excellent! Was worth the wait for both wine and daughter.

(Fanti Brunello di Montalcino) Spice, caramel and some bery fruit on the nose. Somewhat unexpressive. Big, oaky and very overripe on the palate. Almost raisiny. Decent finish but very unexciting. I was expecting a lot more.

From Bin South 4. Oak and cork nose. Medium purple. Light body cork and mild chewy slight acid finish. Corked and past prime. 2/10.
