  • dark cherry-plum colour. Clear. nose: robust; ripe plums plus prunes; some tobacco and spices; later overripe black cherries. taste: medium acidity; soft, ripe tannins; fruit - black, sweet cherries, plums; cinnamon; medium (+) plummy, sweter finish. Excellent example of rosso veronese (blend of Corvina, Osoleta, Cab Franc).

  • Fine to drink now, don't think it will develop by longer storage. Needs some air to get justice.
Smooth and very soft, medium complexity with no tannins.

  • Slightly dull, tawny and moderately opaque. Very viscous wine but moderate body. Aroma is based around ripe plums. This version has a slightly "foxy" note in the bouquet. It's an acceptable level and adds character and individuality to the aroma unless you are really averse to the characteristic. I can kind of feel the same thing in Amarones but much less so and it is overwhelmed in an Amarone by the style. I have had this with other wines. I remember it in some South American Carmeneres. Trying to recall others. I also think this softens as it oxygenates. Aroma heading away from that and more to an undertone of vermouth just a bit.

Palate is Plum and sour cherry. Slightly stewed fruit. Hints of tobacco and a leathery accent and mouthfeel. Acidity is med-H. Tannis are L-med. Alcohol is mod-h. Probably 14 or 14.5. Balance is good but does lean acidic. Finish is very long and stable. Overall I like this wine but could also see me scoring it differently on a day I wasn't in the mood for it. I am drinking it alone but I think this should have food. Roast/Smoked whole Chicken. Honey-citrus base marinade. Veal or chicken parm. Pasta but not too acidic a sauce. Meaty cheese and crackers with dried fruits, honey and nuts. All this would work really well.
