  • There is quite a bit of dissolved C02 here still, which makes this a bit difficult to evaluate. But in general, I wasn't thrilled with this bottle. The palate is broad in texture and unfocused in flavor, and seems somewhat watery. A '16 WS Kabinett opened the following month showed much more focus and concetration.

  • Tasted after 1 hour of air. Some petrol when popped and poured but that has faded away. Sweet pineapple fruit. The acid here is as high as I would expect from a Kabinett. Not too complex.

  • White flowers, apples and citrus notes on nose. Feather light, well balanced between sweet and acidity. Very young, will go for years and years.

  • Served chilled.

Explosive nose of petrol, over time some stone fruits and white flowers came into play. Dense and concentrated palate of apricots and other tropical fruits. There is definitive sweetness on the palate and it is not hiding. Wanted more acidity, medium full body. Finish was long and similar to the palate.

Excellent wine but I had trouble looking past the sweetness. 9% abv. Maybe I'm a trocken kind of guy.

This will go another 15-20 years easy, though drinks very well now.

  • Wow, what a wine! Beguiling nose of petrol, white flowers and lemon zest. Elegant palate, light on its feet, great Trinkfluss. I prefer wines like this so much to the sweet, tba level, wines. A Prüm Kabinett masterpiece. BTW: I dont undertand why scores for Kabinett-Spatlese-Auslese-TBA usually increase on this site and also by Journalists. I think it is a mistake. It is not the sweeter/more concentrated, the better. For my palate they are all similar and you just have to choose how sweet you want it.
