Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • These notes are from Yossie Horwitz: "This year's Makom B'Sonoma is a blend of 70% Malbec and 30% Petit Verdot, both sourced from Sonoma Valley's highly-regarded Kunde Vineyard. With a rink and vibrant nose loaded with dark forest fruit including ripe blackberries, cassis and dark plums with a hint of tart red fruit and floral notes, all of which combine beautifully with savory notes of fresh-grilled meat, earthy forest floor, iodine, tar and fresh-paved asphalt on a nuanced backbone of slightly toasty oak, the wine can (and should) be savored initially by its aroma alone, so give it some time in your glass to open up. On a plush and full bodied palate backed by caressing tannins and a welcome streak of acidity that keeps it fresh and lively, you are greeted with more rich fruits (including a hint of boysenberries), roasted meat, tar, black pepper and minerals alongside some dark chocolate, a touch of warm herbs, spices and more slightly spicy end, all of which leads into a lingering finish reminiscent of chocolate covered smokey blackberries and well-worn saddle leather. Extremely enjoyable right out of the bottle, at this early stage of its life, the wine will benefit from a little bit of air so give it at least 30 minutes in your glass or decanter. The wine will continue to develop in the bottle over the next two to three years and should thereafter cellar comfortably through 2022. - Notes by Yossie Horwitz
