  • Legit. Earthy herbal mineral with cherry. $45 on release! Terrific value especially considering where the Rhys pricing arc has gone. A lot of life left.

  • This pours light ruby in the glass. The nose is hugely appealing from the first pop. Aromas are of cinnamon stick, grapefruit zest, pomegranite, alpine strawberry, wet earth, sassafras, and a lovely damp pine grove note. The palate is is light, airy and elegant entering on lovely strawberry and pomegranite. Tannin is low and acid is medium plus. There is a lovely grapefruit pith character to the finish that is quite appealing. The finish lingers impressively on a grapefruit gremolata note with some light but notable bitterness. All in all I'm blown away by this and find it incredibly gorgeous and hugely appealing. A huge improvement to the bottle opened four years ago. Strangely at that time I noted a bit of an odd coconut note and this time around didn't find that at all.

  • PnP. Medium deep red. Lovely fruit driven nose of plum and cherry. Soft and yummy on the palate (as noted by others, this is NOT Burgundy). Good depth of flavor and well resolved tannins. This is not really in the Rhys style, lacking the whole cluster influence, but a nice wine and reasonable QPR.

  • I like it like I like candy. Gummy bears, peach rings etc. This would be a big crowd pleaser. This a very fruit forward, plush soft wine with still a good amount energetic red fruits and berries acidity. If you bottled this in Burgundy you would be tarred and feathered......but I like it in a candy way wine. Had this with some amazing Bourgogne beef short ribs but this is really not a food wine so I ended up putting the wine aside until done eating. Much better on its own but it reminds of a generic high end Pinot noir at a California party with California Pinot noir. Cola and licorice up the wazoo. It’s like the Rhys peeps turned up the extraction knob to 11 .... all that complaining though and I still like it, like adult candy. I would not pour this with my wine snob friends but gladly with my friends that just like a good easy drinking red with tons of flavors.

  • My single biggest mistake as a long time Rhys buyer was that I did not buy more of the San Mateo regional blend. Fifteen years into my Rhys experience, and it is always my favorite Pinot in their range. It drinks well over a wider time frame. It shows the Rhys house style. It’s a relative bargain compared to the single vineyard wines. My final bottle of the 2015 echoes each one of those positive qualities, from the very first sip. Kirsch-like cherry fruit, earthy undertones and a bright, lightly spiced finish, it’s right on point for drinking on its own or with dinner. The structure is evolving in line with the fruit, and if I had anymore bottles (damn!) I would parcel them out slowly over the next ten years. I know the single vineyard wines are moving on a slower aging curve, but if they ever converge on this point I will be more than satisfied.
