A melancholy yet powerful Napa Cab that is 22 years old. This has aged stunningly well which had me scrambling to count what I have left (sadly only 1). I had it opened for 2 hours and I must say that it could hold for another 22 hours. Improved throughout the night.
Cigar ash, dark fruits with blackberry dominating, additionally cassis and tobacco leaf. Simply divine. Perhaps even above my score tonight. I found this wine to be the real deal. Bordeaux blend like and worth every penny at $86 ish a bottle.

This bottle was quite nice. Fabulous Stag's Leap nose. It was not decanted and I vacillated between whether or not it should have been decanted. The wine seemed alive like it was changing every few minutes and couldn't decide itself. Quite frankly, I expected that it might have gone bad as the friend that gave it to me a few years ago told me his 1997's were all going bad. Not so here! Neverthelss it is hard to imagine that additional age will do anything but increase the risk. Very, very pleasantly surprised. I must say I've had cases of Chimney Rock over the years and never had a bad bottle, so why was I surprised?

Little bit of mushroom on the nose. Is a little closed up front and then opens up into a smooth fruitiness of cherries with a little hint of chocolate.

Wow, this wine is drinking awesome right now. Don't wait any longer if you're holding a bottle. We had it with filets and brocllin slow cooke with hedge hog mushrooms and garlic, with m&ms as dessert. The fruit was somewhat subdued, but the '97 character of sofet velvet came through on the finish. Enjoy it now!
