Ready to go on opening with just a slight chill. Picked up some tobacco and cranberry. Lots of really nice red fruit but not anywhere near a fruit bomb. More reserved. A touch more Old World. Smooth though just a touch tart. Really enjoyable and ready to drink now but can also go a few more years for sure.

Casual dinner at Wimborne. Pop and poured. Drank over 2 hours. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of black cherries, dark red cherries, integrated toasty wood, dark cola, perfumed spices, earth and tar, some undergrowth with more air. Developing. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol (13.2%), gentle medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of cinnamon spice, smooth glossy black cherries, dark red cherries, ripe strawberry compote, sweet baking spices, earth. Long finish. Very good quality. Certainly rich old vine character, though it's still somewhat restrained and controlled for a New World Pinot. Love it when the alcohol is always kept below 13.5% for a Pinot Noir. Still room for some positive development over the next 2-3 years. But doesn't need much more age than that. From the Bien Nacido Vineyard in Santa Maria Valley.

Santa Barbara (Summer 2018): Very ripe and rich in style. A touch of coffee and red raspberry. Very fruit forward on the palate. Much bigger than previous wines with riper strawberry. Nevertheless, good acidity and some fine tannin on the finish.
