Part of an evening of Samsara Pinot and Syrah, focused on the 2014 vintage with a couple of add-ons, this came after the Melville Syrah, which was a tough act to follow, at least for me. Tons of black pepper in this wine, as well as roasted meat and dark fruit. I thought this was an excellent wine, but it stood in the shadow of the prior wine for me. I suspect if I had it on its own with a nice hunk of steak I would be thrilled.

Have had multiple bottles and it just has too much pepper on the nose and palate for me. It overwhelms the fruit and it is hard to match with food. Well made wine but pepper and spice is overwhelming.

Deep dark duby color. Aromatics of cracked black peppercorns, mesquite char, dried violets, black raspberry and smoked paprika. Savory concentration on the palate showing dried wild berries and flowers with depth of star anise, savory earth and spice. Medium bodied showing nice tension and energy, nice stuffing in the mid-palate, and broad and round grainy tannins. Finishes with nice emerging length. Very nice.

I honestly don't know if I have ever had a wine that displays as much black pepper on the nose and the palate. if you like that sort of profile then this wine is for you - if not then avoid. smooth and well textured with a potent peppery finish

Pretty disappointing as far as Samsara goes.. strong earthy taste and not especially complex.. not a good value
