Violet in color. Nose of deep dark cherry, raspberry, plum, and oak. Second nose is more of the same and vanilla. Very smooth and velvety through the palate. Jammy fig and smoke flavors.

Dark burgundy in color. First nose of dark cherries, smoke, and dark berry jam. Second nose opens up with cherries, chocolate, and red licorice. Smooth on entry and leaves lingering dryness on the front of the tongue. Flavors of smoke and dark cherry.

At pop and pour, I was shocked at how dark and purple this was and then shocked again when the main note I got on the nose was candied bacon and fresh squeezed blackberries. Based on color and smell, I would have blind guessed Syrah. The Grenache came through on this when it hit the palate. Front and midpalate were very crisp and elegant. Lots of berry flavors alongside smoked cedar and savory spices. The finish warrants decanting this for at least an hour...still pretty tight, but is killer after some air. Peppercorn, soy sauce, rhubarb.

Great bottle of 2015 Aonair Grenache blend. My question for those in the know is: what is this blended with?
