More fruit than I sometimes find in AR syrah, but not flabby or jammy at all. Will try another bottle from a different year of Clary to see if it's the site talking. Meanwhile, this bottle was well rounded with dark fruit, balanced syrah funk, great acidity, and really delicious.

Decanted six hours in advance, as these A-R Syrahs crave oxygen. When I gave it a quick taste on opening it was firm but not shrill. Six hours later that description largely held true, but the fruit started to unclench a bit. Still a bit austere, but very meaty/smoky in classic Syrah style. Tannins quite drying on the finish, but sufficient mid-palate depth that I would be confident in holding bottles for several more years to further resolve. I expected this wine to be austere to the point of severity, but it stayed on the enjoyable side of stern. Appealing for those who don’t like “lush” in their Syrah.

Get this as much air as you can, this was best on day 3. A savory, almost thin wine, but with time you get some fleshed out blueberry fruit and the wine really comes into balance. A nice change up for me.
12% abv. Dark ruby, expressive aromatics. On the palate, ripe plum, blueberry, black pepper, coffee grounds and licorice. Very intense, excellent depth, length and mouthfeel. This wine is just a baby and on a steep ascent. Even so, it is very enjoyable. Serious cool-climate Syrah.
