Uncorking Château Sixtine has been an education. What I have learned is never ever again purchase a pre-arrival wine, or a wine online, without first learning the alcohol percentage of the wine. And then, draw the line at 15% alcohol. Château Sixtine's Grenache, Syrah, Mouvedre blend is a wonderful wine. Wine Spectator bestowed a 95 point rating, which is deserved, if one only judges the taste of the wine. 15.5% alcohol. The next day is the issue. A wine experience is more than a taste experience. If, after drinking two glasses of wine and two pints of water, you wake up the next morning with a head going BOING BOING BOING, something is amiss. All those flavor particles that make the wine taste great, also make for a wicked hangover. Or, it's the 15.5% alcohol level. Château Sixtine is not for me. One learns.

stored at 12.5 degrees since release. Muted fruit on nose and palate. Decanted for 1 HR Little sediment. Long legs 15.5 ‰ Not polished or bright on pour. Very smooth but no wow factor Low acidity Tanins fine and smooth Just not an exiting wine Kept 1/2 bottle back A little disappointed Served with mutton pie Update. The 1/2 bottle was refrigerated and poured into glasses 1 HR before serving. Little change. Perhaps a little smoother. Very smooth now and a pleasant wine but still disappointing. Given the excellent reviews from other members hope this is bottle variation. There is a "reserve" bottling which I have which is superb.and closer to other review notes.

Am a bit shocked at just how good this is for such a fair price (upon release at least, when I paid about $38). Opulent is a key word that comes to mind. The best CDPs for me have a kind of 'kaleidoscope' of flavor, and this is a great example - hits so many notes. Hedonistic and outright delicious with great concentration and richness. Glad I've a few more.

Similar to previous notes. Rich and delicious with plenty of stuffing.

Beautiful wine. Silky smooth, well balanced and nice finish. Notes of plum.
