Colour shows an aged treasurable wine. First taste when opened is mellow with sediment settling down and might be the soft tannins. Opened for an hour , tasted and then decanted for the last 30 minutes. Liked the wine much..

Decanted half an hour, chilled for 10 minutes. Colour is ruby red with a bit of garnet and bricking at the rim. Initial nose is mainly oak with heavy cigar box, cedar, smoke... that old world charm that tasteful oak can add to a big wine like this one.
Fruit is barely hanging on, and within five minutes of pouring the bramble and red currant fade away. Age has brought out some great savoury flavours here, like shiitakes in soy sauce? A bit of nutmeg and spearmint round this bad boy out.
Palate is pretty well balanced, but the tannins create a bit of a boxy shape in the mouth, and on the finish are still a bit wooly. Acidity is healthy but didn't notice it much against the tannin. Alcohol is well integrated.
I don't think this is towards the end of its life at all - has the structure to keep going, and as the tertiaries rise and the oak falls a bit more, this will be even better. In any case, I would decant for an hour or more and eat with food.
For $30 CAD you will struggle to find a wine at this age with this quality. Brava.

Aromatic, maturing, nose of dried currant, hickory, walnut, and earth. Very good flavours and replays with firm, dry tannins and good acidity for balance; long, complex finish. 4.5/5

Such an enjoyable wine from and area and varietal I am unfamiliar with. In the glass deep ruby with garbet hues. A velvety nose with aromas of ripe red fruit, leather, pepper. On the palet, still reserved, but the red fruit comes through, juicy plum, cloves, medium + acidity, high tannins. Length is ok, but could be longer. For the cost a stellar wine. Drink or age 2 or more years, enough fruit that this should continue to develop.

the wine shows ageing, gamey, earthy, the tannins are rather harsh, smoky, tobacco, med body, angry
