The 2016 Peninsula Ridge Estates Winery Merlot was a pleasant surprise. Received as a gift, we opened this bottle to find a beautiful rich colour and a deep aroma of cherry. Norm Beal, the proprietor, drew the grapes for this wine from a combination of his namesake and Lepp vineyards. The wine was aged for 6 months in 2-3 year old barrels although they can be either french or American oak.
I enjoyed this wine with a rib-eye steak and waled away with no complaints.
