  • Champagne buffs always rave about Blanc de Blancs. The more I drink BdB and high-end Champagne in general, the more I think that is just novices copying from a few hard core Chard buffs. The later are probably Chablis lovers too. The reality is that good BdB are far and few between, while good blends or good BdN are in aboundance. It’s like Chablis, yes aged Ravenau is great, Dauvissat sometimes, but the rest? sinewy stuff for masochists, even if your palate, like mine is atune to cold climate wines. This one is no different. The aromas are nice but unfortunately simple. Let me call it apple cider++. Plus, plus standing for “spices and some other things”. The palate is precise and well measured, not too lean, not too sour. Yet, where is the brioche, where is the succulence, where is the oomph, where is the joy? I know you look much cooler when you bring this wine to a geek session adumbrating the story about the smallest Clos in all of Champagne vs. the dude who just picked up the latest Dom release from the super market shelve. Whether you beat him in a blind line-up is another question. And thus, you are likely in for an “emperor has no clothes” moment…

  • A terrific surprise. A wonderfully complex 2007. Chalky and stoney with lemon and peach. A nice toast element as well.

  • Wow. Bag of chalk, mineral, ripe lemon fruit, touch of toast, as it warmed up it became intense and a little creamy, but otherwise very precise, vibrant, long. Tasty. 10 years on dinner at Conrads.

  • Stunning nose of pure chalk, green apple, light biscuit/yeast note; very intense, concentrated, fine bubbles, and very long. Wonderful. 93-94. At Spago
