Still needs time people. Signs of life here (especially since having it 2 years ago), but.........
Practice social distancing with this for another 5+ years minimum (optimally this is over a decade out).
I love Benoit/FM and all, but as an unfortunate side note, QPR on this is a total miss. Other BDXs at half the price can lap this wine even now. At $100, this would at least be in a similar class as other contenders, but pushing $200+ is.... regrettable.
In the end, it’s a “but...” wine right now for me. A wine I feel I’m trying to make excuses for in order to really like. And I do like it. It’s a good wine with potential. But... It has qualities that show Benoit’s talents. But... It’s starting to show some nice St. Emilion flavors. But... I’d consider buying it again. But....only if it wasn’t stuck at a top-tier Napa pricing bracket. The 2016 is good too. But... The 2018 will likely be good as well. But...

Previous notes apply. Finished the bottle. Likely in that 92 point arena for me right now. There are some potentially fascinating flavors lurking deep within the bowels of this coiled-up snake, but it will take some time. Hours and hours of decanting didn’t budge this stubborn monkey one bit. Purple core fruit and chalky limestone are about the totality of flavors that this animal was willing to show. They are pure and clean flavors, but primary and muted at the moment. I am cautiously optimistic. 91-92+ points for now, with upside after Mars is colonized.

Continuing to follow this bottle with another Coravin pour. Same as last month. With a decent amount of coaxing, plum, limestone, currant, and subtle cassis notes emerged. Flat, linear, and otherwise a disengaging wine at this stage. Quality is lurking...I think... but I won’t know for years.
I’ll plan on killing the rest of this bottle in another month. Right now, this is in the 89-91+ point realm for me, and that’s factoring in what I believe to be well intentioned craftsmanship and quality fruit. An iffy QPR at best makes the conversation even more crunchy. Maybe I’m missing something here.

I like this, but given its density, even after an evening open, I'm not convinced of its QPR. Very much a modern style BDX.

Opens up well, but needs time for the Cab Franc to make its mark. Merlot notes permeate now.
