Decanted for 30 minutes but it needs to be decanted for 2 hours after five more years in the bottle. Massive jammy fruit and the presence of noticeable oak.

Removed from 55 degree cellar and decanted two hours before dinner. Served with Caprese salad and ribeye steaks. Wood shavings, eucalyptus and black fruits. It is hot in the mouth. A bit too much alcohol? Too young? Lots of powdery tannins, but nicely in sync with the deep dark fruits. Perhaps I should have been patient. Based upon how the wine is drinking now, it is quiet a good wine but not magnificent (thus the 92 points). In five years the 92 might morph into 95. Long finish… spicy with waves of mint and red fruits. The more I sip the more I enjoy. While good with the steak, this wine was even better with the post dinner chocolates. A bit too “big” for us francophiles, but this solidifies the QC reputation.

(Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley) Hello friends. We have the return today of a holiday-season tradition: our once-a-year shot at accessing the gateway wine into the inimitable Quilceda Creek Vintners. [Note: we’re also going to advocate for an additional parcel of the flagship Cabernet that we originally offered in September. No promises, but if you’re interested, see the bottom of today’s offer, and we’ll do our best to secure more bottles.]Originally offered September 30, 2018. Here are the reviews cited in the original: Wine Enthusiast: Copyrighted material withheld. [Sullivan context note: of the 1,047 Cabernets Sean has reviewed for Wine Enthusiast, this is the single highest-scoring wine of the bunch; there are three 95pt reviews, but no 96ers. All that to say: Sean views this as the finest Washington Cabernet he has tasted in his Enthusiast tenure. High praise indeed.] International Wine Report (Owen Bargreen): “The 2015 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a total beauty and the most compelling red wine that I have tasted from this vintage in Washington. The fruit was sourced from the Champoux (roughly 70% of the fruit), Palengat, Wallula and Lake Wallula Vineyards. While this designates Columbia Valley AVA on the bottle, it is primarily a Horse Heaven Hills wine. This instantly impresses as it begins with inviting aromas of crème de cassis, pencil lead and black tea with a touch of red cherry compote on the nose, which continue to bring you back to the glass. On the palate this is silky smooth, and marvelously coats the mouth with layers of ripe dark fruits. Lightly tannic, the wine slowly unveils blueberry compote, blackberry cobbler, mocha, and crème de cassis flavors that continue to build. There is a seamless quality to this wine really shines through and impresses with every lingering sip. The minerality, weight and overall presentation of the wine is simply astounding, as is the long, lingering finish, which is marked by beautiful ripe black fruits and lovely minerality. This is a truly monumental effort in a vintage that proved to be challenging due to severe heat spikes throughout the summer growing season. Drink 2018-2035. 98pts.” Jeb Dunnuck: Copyrighted material withheld.
