There is an initial sensation of fullness on the palate which fades to a round but crisp sensation that just flows down the throat (the sensation, and not the taste, reminds me of the effect of mint). There is underlying acidity, but I can't pick up that much for minerals. There is also a resin-like note that is not at the level of pine. Some smoke and toasted nuts on the finish. I think that it is fun to drink but it may be better to decant it first. On Day 2, I still found this wine nice. It also seemed "honest" as though it wasn't trying to be something else. The amount of grapefruit on the palate and finish was almost too much for me today, but I've never been a big fan of this note. However, the iodine was a nice complimentary note. But I think that this wine should be cheaper (it should not be much above 20 USD at the current exchange rate).

  • Brief note: fresh, clean. Citrus and minerals. A rather lean / tense style. Blind, I would have probably guessed this was from the Loire, but, certainly, I would not have guessed Chardonnay. Nice.
