  • I think this is one of our first Cabernet Sauvignon dessert wines. Thick and rich in color with a purplish ruby hue that completely coats the glass. Insanely thick nose with tons of coconut, vanilla, mocha, dark cocoa and blackberries. A bit of alcohol coming through on the nose, almost candied. Medium to medium plus body with tons of sweet baking spices like cinnamon, vanilla, coconut as well as some black plums and chocolate. Lots of prunes and a touch of alcohol on the palate too with a long finish. Drink till 2028.

  • I'm generally not a big fan of Port, late harvest, and/or dessert wines, but this one was life changing! First had it at Shafer in 2017, where it was served (with a chocolate truffle) to conclude our tasting. It was so delicious, and a perfect pairing! I didn't purchase it, however, as I was already tapped out from purchasing several other of Shafer's fantastic wines. Well, I couldn't stop thinking about that Firebreak, and vowed to get a bottle on our next Shafer visit, which we did a few months ago.

Waited for a special occasion to open, and made sure that we had some chocolate truffles on hand, as well as some chocolate flourless cake. WOW! Heavenly nose, and chocolate covered cordial cherries on the palate. So good! Put it in the fridge and had it again a few nights later, and loved it just as much. A quick note that this is a 750ml bottle, making the price point twice as attractive.

  • Pretty color. Decent nose. Rich, sweet fruit, but not cloying. Great finish. Lovely. Tasted at Shafer at the end of the tasting. Good enough that we bought some and paid to ship it back.

  • Touch of sweetness, prune/fig. Cabernet fruit, but not overtly sweet. So juicy.
