Drank my final bottle in a vertical tasting with the 2015, and found this vintage slightly brighter and more fruit-forward, but slightly less well-integrated at this stage.
Medium Ruby color with hints of brick along the edges. Notes of cherry, cranberry, tobacco, dried leaves and cocoa. Smooth and round on the palate, with flavors of cherry, cranberry and dried leaves. Zesty and tart, this remains a bargain at the price and I suspect still has at least a few years ahead of it and some improvement in store.

The nose of berry, primarily strawberry, vanilla, and cassis. Color is darker than other Pinot Noirs. Taste of black fruit, currant, and spice. Median tannin, medium-plus acidity,

Color shows a little bit of brown at the meniscus. After about 90 minutes, the nose is vaguely mushroom and wet forest floor, but it’s all rather soft, rounded, and not very pronounced. Taste is dried cherry, mushroom, and wet moss. Honestly, it’s better than that sounds. The bitterness I’ve seen previously is now gone. There’s still a good bite from the high alcohol, but the flavors have melded nicely — the mouth feel is soft and rounded. Moderate complexity, moderate plus finish (being generous), and very low, soft tannins. Nothing to write home about, but for $19 US (give or take) it’s a solid deal. It doesn’t hit a lot of notes, but I like the ones it hits.
