Appearance: deep ruby, very light staining, heavy tearing, some fine sediment, no rim variation.
Nose: clean, pronounced intensity, developing, black currant, black cherry, black plum, bilberry, red bell pepper jam, bay leaf, pine needles, sage, pencil shavings, gravel, vanilla, smoke.
Palate: dry, medium acid, medium+ tannin, high alcohol (15.1%), full body, medium+ finish, black currant, black plum, bilberry, bay leaf, juniper, pencil shavings, cream cheese, vanilla, dried blueberry, prune.
Overall: On the nose, shows classic Santa Cruz Cabernet aromas of black currant, pyrazines, and forest herbs, with a touch of sweet oak. However, the palate is dominated by ripe black fruits, with a touch of overripeness in the finish, and some cheesy oak. The balance is pretty good, even for the high alcohol, and the acid is enough to keep the wine from feeling heavy; but it is definitely a riper styled Cab that doesn't conform to my expectations of the appellation. Clearly a well made wine, but not in a style that I love; and also probably not a wine for super long term aging (though it could definitely develop gracefully over the next handful of years). Very much a "New World" wine.

Excellent, a bit tart and the tannins really come through. I would sit on it for a few more years.
