  • Purchased not long after release in Atlanta as a close out, reduced price, excellent value ($12-$15?) in 2004-5?
Cellared for first 2-3 years in constant cool-room temps, then in 55 degree U-Haul unit, then in home cooler.
Opened on no special occasion, just a good homemade dinner of stuffed filet of sole (scallops &crabmeat) & potatoes au gratin (both from 'Omaha Steaks'!), GG green beans 'n' almonds with Sister Schubert's wheat rolls.
Great match! This Chablis seemed young even, flinty and crisp acids, color only light golden with green highlights, not near as dark as I might have thought. Beautiful, clean, pure Chablis (for a Village wine) with a citrus note )from the wife). I'd never had this Chablis before, but depended on the LL pedigree to believe what was in the bottle would be dependable. It was. Must have been a helluva vintage, for this wine to persevere to this date, as humble a bottle as it is. Or not so humble.
I dig White Burgundys, have a long history of vintages and AOCs, though just not too many in the upper echelon, but some nonetheless. Chablis are different, unique, and I love them too. I prefer them all (WB's) to have some age, that aspect imbuing the wine with something unattainable by any other means. This vintage (2002) must be spectacular, because this Chablis was abnormally young for its age. Wish I had more, just to see how long-lived it would turn out to be. Unfortunately, this was the only '02 I had. Delicious!
