  • 13% alcohol, 6,3 g/l residual sugar.

Neutral whitish-green color. Somewhat closed, reductive and underwhelming nose with light yet nuanced aromas of unripe pineapple, green apples, steely minerality, some perfumed floral tones, a little bit of sweet marmaladey character and a primary hint of pear drops and estery banana candies. With air the nose opens up a little and gains a slightly sweeter edge. The wine is moderately full-bodied, oily and quite heavy on the palate with dry and somewhat soft flavors of stony minerality, some ripe citrus fruits, a little bit of quince, light apple jam tones and a hint of exotic fruits. The taste has a sweet edge to it and the acidity feels a little bit inadequate for the body. The finish is quite long, broad and oily with quite long and rather heavy, slightly sweet-toned flavors of sweet white fruits, some lemon marmalade, a little bit of pear jam, a hint of steely minerality and a touch of ripe red apple.

An open, expressive and quite weighty Riesling that is drinking pretty well now, but feels perhaps a bit too heavy for its own good, lacking the typical elegance and sense of weightlessness of Mosel Riesling. I'm not sure if this wine is just too primary and would come across more sophisticated after losing the baby fat, or if this is just a big, ripe Riesling best suited for early consumption. At least the wine feels like it could take on some aging, so perhaps it will perform a bit better if left in a cellar for some years. Priced according to its quality at 19,50€.
