  • Opened this at Summer Hill over lunch to celebrate a birthday with my best friend. We had the Zucchini Conserva, Porcini & Chicken Liver Paté, Classic Roast Chicken and Brussels Sprouts Amandine.

Decanted for an hour before consuming. Dark brooding purplish red in colour. Dark red fruits on the nose and palate: cherries, berries, black coffee, pepper, licorice, tobacco.

Like the white, this bottle will benefit from further aging in the bottle (or cellar) for the elements to integrate further to present a more wholesome wine.

  • A fantastic base cuvée from this still somewhat underrated Châteauneuf domain with, in this grand vintage, all components in the right proportions: the lushness of the Grenache boosted by the power of the Mourvèdre and Syrah, plenty of ripe tannins, optimal acidity and a lingering finish. The 15% alcohol is very well integrated. Drink this beauty now and over the next 5-10 years according to your personal preference.
This wine promises fireworks for the special cuvèes “Chante le Merle” and “A la gloire de mon Grand Père”.

  • Nice delicate CdP. Not ethereal but good flavor profile low acid well integrated tannins

  • Strong 89 points, which is my way of suggesting that although 89 is not usually what aspire to drink (when it can be helped), this wine is quite respectable from the perspective of objective analysis and hard to criticize finding it on the menu in a French bistro. In fact, one positive is the balance, which to me is often off on CdP on account of the traditionally higher alcohol.

Decanted briefly and poured. Initially tight. It slowly opened with time. Med nose of black cherry, blackberry, currant with a dose of oak. The wine is developing.
Palate med intensity medium finish. Med+ acidity, medium alcohol, med+ body. Med tannins. Can cellar for a few years although not one to forget about. In summary, a pleasurable purchase in the restaurant but not one I plan to invest in.

  • This did not seem fully expressive just yet. I am thinking another year or two of rest will help this wine to show better.
