Unlike many 1997s that have not lasted, this one is in a nice place. Arrived today – which may not be fair to the wine. I had not heard of Gideon Beinstock nor Renaissance Vineyards, but I like the unusual.
Nose of cigar box, dark fruit, and minerals … more Bordeaux than Napa. Palate shows nice acid with a tannic backbone. Med+ long finish.
A rustic style and old-school. Nice balance and quite pretty. Not a blockbuster nor fruit-bomb. I quite like it. Very interesting story and reality.

I’ve drank two of these bottles so far. The first was just good example of a 20 year old cab. The second bottle I drank, however, was mind blowing. Straight from the bottle, it was bursting with blackberry and over ripe raspberry. Still absolutely powerful on the palate and brewing with earthy berry flavors and spices. That bottle was one of the last two to be sold in the NY capital region. Won’t open the other one for at least a few years. -Couldn’t help but eat some sediment. It was like dry raspberry sorbet.-

Filigreed nose of rose, incense, dark plum, a whisper of cedar. On the palate both bright and deep, with a long fruit driven finish, integrated tannins, a delicate touch of acid. A lovely experience, mature and balanced, beautiful with lamb shanks. 50 + 17 + 17 + 8 = 92.

Wine has a great nose but feel that it’s on the decline. Probably should have had a couple years ago.
