Very aromatic nose. Earthy with tobacco, mushroom, smoke notes. Nose faded some over the 1 1/2 hour dinner, but never went away. More rustic than refined on the palate. Delicious. Medium finish.

2011 Vincent Girardin (Vin, Vino, Wine, Palo Alto, Ca): Slightly chalky, slightly minerally, slightly gamey, nice balanced complexity; palate is bigger, more tannin, needs time, fruit doesn't fill out midpalate as much as I might like, great minerality. Nice overall, and maybe a bit more age able than the others so far. 89-90
