I wanted to like this wine but it was a perfumy oak bomb. On the 3rd day, it was a bit better but still too much. I feel like there is nice fruit underneath but it's just smothered in new oak. Not for me.

Bought out of a bargain bin a the local grocery store for $13 a year ago. Been holding in my cellar. Served with beef bourguignon. Decanted for an hour. Aromas of raspberry jam, wild bramble berry, spice, tobacco, currant, and peppercorn. Wow. Really nice bouquet. Well integrated, balanced and smooth. Drink now. Great example of classical california merlot under $50.

Not sure if more time is needed to integrate, but oak dominates from the opening of the cork, throughout the medium length taste profile. Getting past the oak, enjoyed the addition of the Syrah and Cab which rounds out the medium body wine.

Light purple color. Aromas of mulled raspberries and cherries with earthy, sooty, tobacco and some mushroom tones. Silky tannins on the palate with fresh acidity and a smooth, velvety feel. Cherry and raspberry jam fruit mix well with nuanced coffee, dark chocolate, and earthy-tilled soil notes. Subtle tobacco and mushroom tones coming out. Quite nice, this has aged well and has more to go.
